MEDIA RELEASE
22 MAY 2023
RMB is passionate about protecting Namibia’s critically endangered rhino population and is proud to announce the 9th RMB and Wilderness Ride for Rhinos mountain bike tour - an event we have supported since its inception in 2015. This exclusive event, taking place in Namibia's vast and rugged Palmwag Concession, is supported by both RMB Namibia and Wilderness and is organised by Venture Media with technical MTB support from CYMOT.
The tour assists various rhino conservation initiatives in north-western Namibia, and creates awareness of Namibia’s rhino conservation programmes while raising much needed funds. Over the course of the past nine years, the event has successfully generated close to N$3.5 million for the Save the Rhino Trust and other organisations involved in rhino conservation and community conservation initiatives.
This year, the proceeds of the tour will be split equally between the Save the Rhino Trust Namibia and Children in the Wilderness (CITW). CITW is a Wilderness-led non-profit project dedicated to empowering young people in rural Africa through environmental education and leadership development. By fostering a love for nature and promoting conservation values, the NGO aims to inspire a new generation of environmental stewards who will contribute to the sustainable future of their communities and wildlife.
This year’s edition is unique in that, for the first time in its history, the organisers have decided to host two back-to-back multi-day rides – one from May 24th to May 28th, and the other from May 29th to June 2nd 2023 - offering an opportunity for only 18 riders per tour to participate in this one of a kind experience.
Philip Chapman, CEO of RMB Namibia, highlighted the importance of the Ride for Rhinos cycling tour for the future of conservation in the country. “Business plays an integral part in finding solutions to society’s economic, social and environmental challenges. We are therefore proud to once again support the Save the Rhino Trust and also join forces with co-sponsor Wilderness in providing awareness and support for CITW. All of those who participate in, and support, Ride for Rhinos understand that community involvement and education are vital elements of future conservation efforts.”
