A decade of riding for rhinos evolves into a movement for rangers

After ten remarkable tours under the banner of Ride for Rhinos, one of Namibia’s most impactful conservation fundraising adventures is entering a new era. On 4 June, at a special event hosted by RMB Namibia at CYMOT Hilltop in Windhoek, the next chapter of the ride was officially unveiled: The RMB & Wilderness Ride for Rangers.

Speaking at the event, Jason Shikalepo, Head of Investment at RMB Namibia, stated, “Protecting Namibia’s critically endangered rhinos and supporting those who safeguard our wildlife isn’t just a noble cause—it’s a responsibility. It’s about preserving the natural heritage that is central to our identity, economy, and future prosperity.” 

Launched in 2015, Ride for Rhinos was born out of a commitment to conservation and community. What began as a multi-day mountain biking expedition through Namibia’s northwestern wilderness quickly became a symbol of solidarity for endangered species, especially the desert-adapted black rhino. Riders, partners, and conservationists came together year after year, raising awareness and funds to help protect these iconic animals and the ecosystems they call home.

Now, in 2025, the ride enters its second decade with a renewed focus. Ride for Rangers shifts the spotlight from the animals to the people: the rangers, game guards, trackers, and communities who stand on the frontlines of conservation. These are the individuals who monitor and protect wildlife populations, including rhinos, elephants, giraffes, plains game, lions, and hyenas in Namibia’s most remote regions.

The renamed and repurposed tour maintains its spirit of adventure and purpose. Still, it now explicitly honours the “boots on the ground” – those who dedicate their lives to safeguarding Namibia’s natural heritage. With ongoing support from RMB Namibia and Wilderness and with cycling support from CYMOT, the tour is once again conceptualised and organised by Venture Media.

Funds raised during this year’s ride will benefit key organisations working in the Kunene and Erongo regions, including the Save the Rhino Trust and Children in the Wilderness – a community-focused environmental education programme that nurtures the next generation of custodians.

According to Shikalepo, “We are excited to launch the next chapter of this journey—the RMB & Wilderness Ride for Rangers. At RMB, we see this evolution as a natural extension of our values—recognising that community involvement, education, and holistic conservation are key to long-term success. Supporting these frontline heroes aligns perfectly with our mission to foster sustainable growth and resilience, not only in business but across the landscapes and communities that shape Namibia’s future.” 

The 2025 RMB & Wilderness Ride for Rangers will take place from 11–15 June, following a rugged and inspiring route from the Hoanib River to Wilderness’ Desert Rhino Camp in the Palmwag Concession. The journey showcases not only Namibia’s breathtaking landscapes but also its conservation legacy.

The launch event, hosted at CYMOT Hilltop on 4 June, brought together past and present riders, partners, clients, and members of Namibia’s conservation community to celebrate 10 years of Ride for Rhinos and usher in this bold new chapter.
