In this video clip Daniel Kavishe, RMB Africa Economist and author of the Where to Invest in Africa 2021 report, takes a closer look at the extent of the pandemic’s impact and other factors affecting Namibia’s investment-attractiveness ranking.
Over the past few years, this economy has struggled to edge out growth.
This is none other than Namibia, that entered the pandemic already in recessionary environment. However, from an investment destination perspective, we still see Namibia featuring as 19th position within our top 20 'Where to Invest in Africa 2021' rankings.
The economy has had to do a lot of restructuring. It's had to focus on sectors that will allow it to grow aggressively over the next few years. It's had to deal with unemployment challenges. It's had to deal with inequality. It's had to clean up a lot of its fiscal concerns, and it has indelibly had to put a lot of focus to improve its rankings across corruption indices.
We think that over the next few years, Namibia is one of probably the smaller economies to watch, but one nonetheless that will have an impact on the investment environment across the continent.
Not only do we think they'll have significant focus within the energy sector, focusing on renewables. We also think that they have a lot of opportunities in terms of expanding within the logistical services, seeing that they could be another gateway into sub-Saharan Africa.
