The RMB Namibia story

Namibia is home to some of the world’s largest deposits of uranium and is the world’s largest producer of marine diamonds. Namibia is also home to RMB Corporate and Investment Banking. The bank has been offering innovative corporate banking and financial solutions to clients in Namibia for more than a decade.

RMB Namibia is part of one of the largest financial services groups (by market capitalisation) in Africa – FirstRand Bank Limited. The bank became a fully fledged Corporate and Investment Bank in 2014 – the result of discussions between the then FNB Namibia Holdings Limited Group and RMB to set up an RMB subsidiary in-country.

From humble beginnings with only four full-time staff members, RMB Namibia has grown to a team with a wealth of knowledge and advises clients on a range of products and services ranging from transactional, trade and working capital solutions to foreign exchange and global markets instruments.

African roots

As an RMB subsidiary, RMB Namibia forms part of the RMB mother brand and greater FirstRand Group of companies in South Africa.

RMB’s founding members Paul Harris, Laurie Dippenaar and GT Ferreira started RMB in 1977 as a small financial structuring house in Johannesburg. They called their company Rand Consolidated Investments (RCI) and built the business on the basis of Traditional values. Innovative ideas. This brand promise has formed the basis from which all RMB businesses, subsidiaries and representative offices in Africa and abroad operate.

RMB is the gateway to Corporate and Investment Banking in Africa. With an active presence in 12 African countries and an extensive deal footprint across the continent, our roots are firmly entrenched in African soil.

Innovative firsts

We are passionate about solving problems for our clients. Our thinking digs deeper and sees further. It is this relentless search for innovation that has made us pioneers in the investment banking sector.

We are the first South African Corporate and Investment Bank to give investors access to inflation-linked bonds through the JSE and the NSX. We structured the first renewable energy deal under the REFIT programme in Namibia  Some call it luck, some call it perfect timing. We call it Solutionist Thinking.

Appetite for complexity

At RMB we are innovative in our thinking. We turn complex challenges into opportunities. We challenge accepted thinking and we question the norm. Our enquiring and unconventional minds and ability to turn complexities into innovative solutions is what distinguishes us from the rest. Our award-winning deals, highly-rated analysts, economists, dealmakers and talented Solutionists make us one of the leading Corporate and Investment Banks on the continent.
