Our Sustainability Talks series explored transition finance, carbon markets, social finance, and the innovation shaping sustainable finance today. This final episode turns to adaptation – the part of the climate conversation focused on managing impacts that are already being felt. In Africa climate losses are rising, infrastructure is under increasing pressure, and balance sheets are increasingly exposed to physical climate risk.

Carbon Finance

Carbon Finance sit at one of the most contested intersections in sustainable finance. On the one hand, they offer the potential to mobilise significant capital toward emissions reduction and nature-based solutions, particularly in emerging markets such as Africa. On the other hand, carbon markets are frequently linked to greenwashing, raising doubts about whether carbon finance truly drives decarbonisation or merely postpones it.
